Australia: RAAF Successfully Completes Debut Red Flag Nellis Exercise with F-35As

The inaugural participation of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in Exercise Red Flag Nellis 24-1 has concluded, following three weeks of rigorous air combat training in the southwestern United States. Collaborating with counterparts from the United States and the United Kingdom, RAAF deployed six F-35A Lightning II aircraft alongside an air battle management team for mission coordination.

Approximately 3,000 personnel, including 150 from RAAF, engaged in a comprehensive simulation of fifth-generation air combat scenarios within a congested training airspace. Commanding Officer of 3 Squadron, Wing Commander Adrian Kiely, emphasized the importance of integrating the advanced F-35A within a network of sensors and systems for its full potential.

Exercise Red Flag Nellis 24-1 tested interoperability and enhanced understanding among participating nations, challenging them to coordinate in the face of highly sophisticated air defense networks. Wing Commander Peter Mole, who led the RAAF Tactical Command and Control Team, highlighted the unique experience of working alongside the US and UK, fostering confidence in future international integration in modern air campaigns.
