China is set to launch two test satellites into lunar orbit as part of an ambitious effort to establish communication between the moon and Earth. These twin satellites, with respective weights of 61 kg and 15 kg, will orbit the moon together to verify new technologies, including navigation calibrations and high-reliability signal transmissions.
The Deep Space Exploration Laboratory revealed that these satellites will be sent into Earth-moon transfer orbit alongside Queqiao-2, a communication relay satellite for the moon's far side. Following this, the two test satellites will execute near-moon braking maneuvers to enter an elliptical lunar orbit.
Queqiao-2, scheduled for a launch in the first half of the year, will serve as a crucial communication platform for China's fourth phase of lunar exploration, providing essential communication services for missions like Chang'e-4, Chang'e-6, Chang'e-7, and Chang'e-8. This endeavor represents China's commitment to advancing lunar exploration and communication technologies.
