For as long as it takes: Germany’s support for Ukraine.

In the face of Russia's relentless aggression against Ukraine, Germany has emerged as a stalwart ally, extending substantial financial, military, and humanitarian support to the war-torn nation. The German government's commitment to Ukraine's welfare transcends mere rhetoric, as evidenced by its contributions totaling more than 27.8 billion euros to date.

The conflict in Ukraine has wrought immeasurable suffering, affecting not only Ukrainian soldiers but also innocent civilians, including the elderly, women, and children. Russia's targeted attacks have taken a severe toll on civilian infrastructure, jeopardizing access to basic necessities like heat and electricity. Recognizing the dire situation, Germany has made it a top priority to provide Ukrainians with essential aid.

Germany's support encompasses a broad spectrum of initiatives. In addition to financial aid, the German government has deployed substantial winter assistance programs, aid for displaced Ukrainians, and assistance for investigating war crimes. Humanitarian efforts also include mine clearance operations.

To bolster Ukraine's capacity to defend itself against Russian aggression, Germany has supplied arms and equipment from its Bundeswehr stockpiles. Furthermore, the country has taken a leading role in contributing to the refinancing fund of the European Peace Facility, facilitating the delivery of military equipment from EU member states to Ukrainian armed forces.

In response to Russia's continued aggression, Germany, in collaboration with European partners, has imposed unprecedented sanctions. These measures encompass cutting off Russia from international financial markets, export bans on advanced technology, industry, and energy, and restrictions on Russian oil exports. Sanctions also target key figures in Russia, including President Putin, Foreign Minister Lavrov, war criminals, and oligarchs supporting them.

The international community is not turning a blind eye to Russia's violations of international humanitarian law and human rights abuses in Ukraine. Germany is providing financial and expert support to investigations by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and aiding Ukrainian authorities in obtaining forensic equipment.

Looking ahead to the daunting task of reconstruction in Ukraine, the German government, in conjunction with partners from the EU and G7, is working on a roadmap for the nation's recovery. The establishment of an international Donor Coordination Platform demonstrates the commitment to rebuilding Ukraine, offering an opportunity for modernization, ecological transformation, and national reforms.

Germany's solidarity with Ukraine extends beyond government channels. A groundswell of support from the German people and civil society has led to a profusion of donations. To streamline the aid process, the government encourages donations to established organizations like Aktion Deutschland Hilft and the Disaster Relief Alliance, with funds earmarked for "Nothilfe Ukraine" (emergency aid for Ukraine).

In these trying times, Germany's unwavering support for Ukraine serves as a beacon of hope amid adversity. Whether through financial aid, military assistance, or humanitarian efforts, Germany remains committed to standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine for as long as it takes.
