Fukushima Leak: Scientists Reassure No Ice Accumulation of Radioactive Water
Researchers from the Far Eastern Primorye Meteorological Center stated that radioactive water leaked from Japan's Fukushima-1 Nuclear Power Plant would not accumulate as ice in the Pacific Ocean. The warm temperatures near the plant prevent ice formation, and ocean currents prevent water from flowing north and accumulating as ice.
The leak, discovered on February 7, released 5.5 tons of water with radioactive concentrations exceeding safety limits. However, radiation controls were not intensified post-leak, with no recorded increases in background radiation levels. Russia's consumer rights watchdog also confirmed seafood safety, emphasizing continuous screening for radioactive substances in imported products.
