Iceland Partners with Malawi to Advance Human Rights Initiatives

The Embassy of Iceland in Malawi, alongside Norway and the UNDP, has pledged support for human rights institutions and organizations in Malawi. The agreement, signed at the UNDP headquarters in Lilongwe, aims to bolster legal systems and enhance the independence of human rights entities, including the Human Rights Foundation of Malawi and the Office of the Ombudsman.

Special attention will be given to marginalized groups like the LGBTI community and the disabled. This three-year project aligns with Iceland's increased focus on human rights in its development cooperation efforts. Additionally, Iceland is investing in infrastructure projects in Malawi, exemplified by the joint funding of a new administrative building in Mangochi, strengthening regional governance and decentralization efforts.
