India-Mauritius Jointly Inaugurate Agalega Island's Airstrip and Jetty

Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Mauritian Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Pravind Jugnauth jointly inaugurated a new airstrip and St. James Jetty, alongside six community development projects at Agalega Island in Mauritius through video conferencing. This event underscores the strong and decades-old development partnership between the two nations, aiming to enhance connectivity, maritime security, and socio-economic development.

Noteworthy is India's complete financing of the project, emphasizing the commitment to the Mauritius-India relationship. The inauguration follows the recent introduction of UPI and RuPay Card services in Mauritius. Prime Minister Jugnauth praised India's support, highlighting the island nation's adoption of the 'Jan Aushadhi Scheme' for medicines. Prime Minister Modi emphasized the vibrant partnership, development contributions, and the strategic importance of Mauritius in India's 'Neighbourhood First Policy.' The inaugurated facilities promise improved connectivity, administrative links, and enhanced capabilities in marine surveillance, further solidifying the collaborative efforts to ensure security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region.
