The INSV Tarini, a vessel known for its transoceanic capabilities, commenced its return journey to Goa from Port Louis, Mauritius, on March 30, 2024. The vessel is manned by a formidable duo, Lieutenant Commanders Roopa A and Dilna K, covering an approximate distance of 2,900 nautical miles. The expedition's departure was celebrated with a flag-off ceremony led by Commander Abhilash Tomy (Retd), KC, NM, an acclaimed yachtsman and the official mentor to the two officers. The event was also graced by Captain Manish Sain, Director of the Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA), and members of the High Commission of India (HCI) in Mauritius. A Maritime Coast Guard (MCG) Dornier aircraft paid tribute by flying over the vessel as it left the port, adding a touch of grandeur to the send-off.
This challenging voyage is not just a testament to the resilience and skill of its crew but also serves as crucial preparation for a planned circumnavigation set to begin in September 2024. INSV Tarini's journey to Port Louis, which started from INS Mandovi, Goa, on March 21, 2024, took 22 days of non-stop sailing, demonstrating the vessel's and the crew's endurance and capabilities.
The visit to Port Louis included a significant engagement with the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs. K Nandini Singla, who boarded the INSV Tarini to meet the crew. She extended her best wishes for their voyage, emphasizing the historic nature of their journey.
The INSV Tarini is expected to make landfall in Goa on April 20, 2024, completing a remarkable journey that not only highlights the prowess of the Indian Navy's sailing capabilities but also sets the stage for future maritime adventures. This voyage marks a significant milestone in the Indian Navy's commitment to showcasing naval skill and endurance on the global stage.
