Seoul, (Amaravati Today): North Korea has fired several cruise missiles towards the Yellow Sea, according to South Korean military reports, escalating tensions in the region. The launch occurred at around 7 a.m., and while details are limited due to ongoing analysis, it marks North Korea's first cruise missile launch since September 2023. In recent weeks, Pyongyang has been flexing its military muscle, conducting tests of solid-fuel intermediate-range ballistic missiles and hypersonic warheads. Hypersonic missiles pose a significant challenge due to their high speed and maneuverability, making them harder to detect and intercept.
Tensions along the inter-Korean border have also escalated, with buffer zones established under a 2018 inter-Korean military agreement rendered invalid following North Korea's live-fire drills near the western maritime border. South Korea has responded by announcing the resumption of artillery firings and drills near the border, further heightening the regional security situation. The international community is closely monitoring the situation and is concerned about the growing instability in the Korean Peninsula.
