In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revealed its inaugural list of candidates, marking a significant move in the political landscape. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to re-enter the electoral fray, opting once again for Varanasi as his constituency.

The BJP's candidate list encompasses 195 nominees across 16 states and two union territories. Uttar Pradesh leads the tally with 51 candidates, followed by West Bengal with 20, Madhya Pradesh with 24, and other states with varying numbers. The geographical diversity underscores the party's commitment to a pan-Indian representation.

Notable mentions in the candidate lineup include Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna, Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Vidisha, Alok Sharma from Bhopal, and Hema Malini from Mathura, reflecting a blend of seasoned politicians and fresh faces. The announcement was made by BJP Secretary General Vinod Tawde during a press conference held at the party headquarters.

During the Central Election Committee meeting on February 29, attended by key figures such as Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, discussions revolved around candidate selection. The committee, comprising Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states, meticulously considered the nominations.

Out of the 195 candidates, 28 are women, emphasizing the party's commitment to gender diversity. Additionally, the list includes 47 young candidates, 27 from scheduled castes, 18 from scheduled tribes, and 57 from backward classes, showcasing a diverse representation.

As the political stage intensifies in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP's candidate announcement sets the tone for a dynamic and closely watched electoral battle. Prime Minister Modi's decision to contest from Varanasi adds a focal point to the unfolding political drama, promising a riveting electoral season ahead.
