Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov addressed an embassy roundtable discussion on the settlement in Ukraine, emphasizing the significance of the ongoing Ukraine crisis within the context of global politics. Lavrov highlighted the United States' neo-colonialist policies and its role in sidelining similar crises around the world.
He stressed the importance of the format and topic of the discussion, considering the Ukraine crisis as a test for the emerging multipolar world order. Lavrov criticized Western nations for exploiting international mechanisms for their own neo-colonialist interests and using Ukraine as a tool to deter Russia.
Lavrov pointed out that the United States, along with 54 other countries, is arming Ukraine and sending military specialists to prevent Russia's success in the conflict. They view Ukraine as a "defensive wall" against Russia, threatening that if Russia succeeds, the Baltic countries, Sweden, and Finland could be next. Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's commitment to its special military operation in Ukraine to address historical injustices and protect its security. He likened the situation to past invasions by Napoleon and Hitler, suggesting that the U.S. aims to attack Russia through Ukraine.
