U.S. Adjusts Venezuela Sanctions, Upholding Democratic Principles and Barbados Agreement Compliance

In response to Nicolas Maduro's actions in Venezuela, including the arrest of opposition members and barring candidates from the presidential election, the United States is reinforcing its commitment to Venezuelan democracy. This stance aligns with the Barbados Agreement, which Maduro's representatives and the opposition Unitary Platform signed.

The U.S. has issued General License 44, aiding Venezuela's oil and gas sector, contingent on Maduro's adherence to the agreement, particularly in allowing free participation in the presidential election. Without progress, this license will not be renewed post-April 18, 2024. Furthermore, the U.S. is revoking General License 43 related to transactions with Venezuela's state-owned gold mining company, Minerven.

The U.S. maintains its support for democratic dialogue and the Venezuelan people's aspirations, emphasizing the Barbados electoral roadmap as crucial for resolving Venezuela's crises and ensuring fair elections in 2024.
