U.S. and China Launch Counternarcotics Working Group to Combat Illicit Drug Trade
Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Homeland Security Advisor Jen Daskal is set to lead a U.S. delegation to Beijing on January 30-31 to initiate the U.S.-PRC Counternarcotics Working Group. This move comes as part of President Biden and President Xi Jinping's direction to resume bilateral cooperation against global illicit drug manufacturing and trafficking, including synthetic drugs like fentanyl.
The U.S.-PRC Counternarcotics Working Group aims to establish a platform for ongoing coordination to combat the production, financing, and distribution of illicit drugs. This initiative will support bilateral enforcement efforts and strengthen cooperation between the two nations.
The high-level delegation includes representatives from various U.S. government departments, including Homeland Security, Justice, State, and Treasury. The launch of this working group underscores the commitment of both countries to address the serious issue of illicit drug production and distribution on a global scale.
