As Houthi attacks on commercial vessels persist, HMS Richmond takes over from HMS Diamond to safeguard shipping lanes in the Red Sea. HMS Diamond, part of Operation Prosperity Guardian, faced multiple attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, successfully repelling nine drone assaults.

The UK remains committed to countering Houthi aggression through intercepting weapon-smuggling, imposing sanctions, and conducting targeted strikes. Defence Secretary Grant Shapps commended HMS Diamond's efforts, emphasizing the importance of protecting navigation freedom.

HMS Richmond, equipped with Sea Ceptor missiles and a Wildcat helicopter, will now continue the mission. HMS Diamond's crew, having covered 20,000 nautical miles and conducted extensive patrols, hands over responsibilities after ensuring maritime security in the region.
