United States Reaffirms Support for Multinational Mission in Haiti Amid Rising Violence

The United States has reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting the Haitian people and international efforts to establish a Multinational Security Support mission in Haiti. This mission, requested by Haiti and authorized by UN Security Council Resolution 2699, aims to address the growing security challenges in the country. The U.S. also acknowledges the Republic of Kenya's High Court ruling on the deployment of Kenyan police to support this mission, with the Kenyan government intending to challenge the ruling.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, the United States called on the international community to provide immediate support due to rising gang violence and destabilizing forces plaguing Haiti. Additionally, the U.S. emphasized the need for restoring democratic order through an inclusive political process in Haiti, urging Haitian stakeholders to find common ground on power-sharing and inclusive governance. The statement stressed that free and fair elections are the only legitimate path towards achieving long-term peace and stability in Haiti.
