US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan Discusses Alliance and Regional Issues with Thai Leaders
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan held meetings with Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara in Thailand. During the meetings, Sullivan reiterated the importance of the US-Thailand treaty alliance and partnership. They discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation on various bilateral and global issues, with a focus on trade, investment, clean energy transition, people-to-people ties, and security collaboration in the Indo-Pacific.
Sullivan emphasized the US commitment to ASEAN centrality and welcomed engagement with Thailand in ASEAN settings. The discussions also touched upon democracy, human rights, and the importance of ensuring citizens' participation in the political process.
Regional and global topics were addressed, including the crisis in Burma. Humanitarian aid for Burma was discussed, along with support for the implementation of the ASEAN Five Point Consensus. Sullivan reaffirmed the US commitment to securing the release of all remaining hostages held by Hamas.
Both parties welcomed plans for increased high-level engagement, including the upcoming U.S.-Thailand Strategic and Defense Dialogue in February, which aims to strengthen the 190-year-old bilateral alliance and partnership.
